The time had come. The Great Leaving, we called it. Something of a sense of humour, I suppose.
The Wind of Destiny struck and severed my umbilical cord from Mother Tree. I tumbled, head over heels, into the autumn sunshine that had been hidden behind concrete since my beginning.
My flight was brief. I landed on a garden wall where I remain until the next Wind decides it is no longer my place of resting.
Where it takes me I cannot say. Some say a hedgerow is our fate or a clogged drain. If the Wind is in my favour, I may even reach places further afield where rivers travel for miles and ancient woodlands span hillsides. But that is not up to me, for I am a leaf, bound to the will of the Elements.
